Greg had some UDI (United Dairymen of Idaho) board meetings in Boise so the kids and I decided to tag along. The best part was that our hotel was only a couple of miles from our cousins!!! And not just any cousins, but the ones who have been living in New York for the last several years! It was so much fun for these kids to spend some time together and get to know each other better. We are SO HAPPY they've finally moved closer!
Katie and I had big plans to take the kids to the zoo but the power steering went out on our Suburban our first day there and ended up in the shop for the rest of the trip. Trying to drive 9 kids in one car to the zoo wasn't an option, so we found other things to do instead. We visited their library and went swimming at their Aunt's pool. Luckily all these things were close to where they live. We also went for a little walk around the pond by their house. This was the only time I actually remembered to get out my camera...

The best part was that the kids actually WANTED to pose for the camera...except for Wyatt

Katie and Eric were so nice to let us borrow their van while we were there. They were also nice to watch the kids while we attended some of the UDI things. On Wednesday night Lydia and Wyatt had a sleepover while we took Dallin and Amy with us to dinner with the rest of the board members. It was FANCY. WAY too fancy for a 4 and 2 year old. We only caused a major scene once (or maybe twice...). On the plus side though, we found out that Amy loves calamari.
*Greg is by far the youngest member on the board. Everyone else has teenager/young adult children or grandchildren. Luckily one other couple had their daughter and her two children so we weren't the ONLY ones with kids.
On Thursday Katie watched Dallin and Amy while we took Lydia and Wyatt white water rafting with us and some of the other board members. We went on the Payette river and it was a blast!
waiting to get on our rafts
Wyatt was very skeptical about this being a safe activity, especially after seeing some of the pictures in the gift shop, but he quickly changed his mind after the first rapid. Before long he was "riding the bull" (sitting up front in the raft like a bull rider) and having a blast! It helped that we were on a milder stretch of the river, but still a lot of fun for these two!
Overall it was a fun little family vacation. One thing is for certain though...
It will be a LONG time before we stay in a hotel with all four kids again.
*Greg slept in the bed on the right and I slept in the bed up close. I'm not sure HOW we slept with our bed buddies taking up all the room. We also got a warning from the front desk on the last night since both Dallin and Amy were crying and we were disturbing the guests below.
