Wyatt just finished up his first season of city league basketball. The boy has a new love! His favorite things about basketball were that they actually kept score (unlike soccer and t-ball) and that he was on the Cougars team (which was undefeated). So appropriate for this BYU lovin kid.
In his first game he scored 10 points and didn't pass the ball once. After that we worked a little more on his skills as a team player! He became a pretty good little defender and because he's so competitive and wanted to improve, he really listened to his coaches and worked hard at everything they told him to do. At yesterday's game his team was ahead and the coach tried to sit him out for a while. None of the other kids wanted to go back in so she let Wyatt stay, but she told him if he was going to stay on the court, he needed to start passing the ball to kids who haven't had a chance to score yet. He did EXACTLY what she told him to and made sure all the girls on his team got a chance to shoot. (Greg was so proud of all his assists yesterday ;)
MY favorite part was watching how excited he would get after scoring (fist pumps in the air and all)....and then watching him SKIP back down the court (the only time Greg shook his head in defeat ;)
On the way home yesterday he kept asking if we saw how good he was at passing. He's already been mentioning what a great defender he is, but now he's such a "great passer". His confidence is definitely on the rise. And if there were any doubt, it was confirmed when we got home and he brought up how awesome he was at basketball again. This is how the conversation went...
"Mom, aren't I such a good passer now?"
"Yes Wyatt, you have really improved this season."
"Yeah, I'm like as good as Jimmer"
"Well, Jimmer has had a lot more experience than you, but if you keep practicing and working hard, you can be as good as Jimmer some day"
"Yeah....but I'm already like the Jimmer on my team!"
He may be a little TOO confident in his skills...
...but Greg says it's good for ball players to have a little swagger! ;)
